We use only organic
fertilizers. Organic fertilizers affect the soil
differently than chemical fertilizer. Organics have a wide range of nutrients & micro
nutrients that are needed to nuture the soil. Organic fertilized pasture or
hay is more drought tolerant than chemical
fertilized soil. Organic also equalizes the PH. Soil that has been
repeatedly treated with chemicals is reffered to as "dead"
soil. Organic fertilizers go beyond natural ingredients. They are certified free of pesticide &
herbicide residue. Many organic amendments & fertilizers come from fields
sprayed with toxic chemicals. The most abused by chemicals may be cottonseed meal. This
natural product is one of the most heavily
sprayed crops and the residue that is left behind
in the meal can be significant. Our fertilizers
have met the highest criteria and are approved for organic production.
A few years ago we fertilized with CHICKEN LITTER. About 4
days after fertilizing I put horses in the pasture. They all acted like they had foundered. I had the vet out to check them. He said they had
ARSENIC poisening from grazing
on the field too soon after applying Chicken Litter. Do you really want to eat
meat or produce from a field fertilized with
ARSENIC?? If you put organic
fertilized hay and chemical fertilized hay in front of cows or sheep, they will
eat the organic fertilized hay and leave the
other. Sometimes I think animals are smarter than humans.
For fertilizing our grass for the
Lowline Angus and Dorper sheep at Rockin L, we
looked at all fertilizer options and after
looking at farms using organic fertilizer and
checking on cost we fertilized
with a mixture of fish emulsion, Humic Acid, Molassis &
Agrispon. I believe it to be
healthy for land, Animals and environment.
